The present memorial was donated by V. D. Kapantai and it was created by the sculptor Aggelos Vlassis. The memorial is an historic reference to the period of 1940-1941. According to the sculptor, through this memorial tribute is paid to armed resistance warriors and to people that were slaughtered. Ethnikis Antistaseos street was named after the memorial and it is where the central market of the city lies, next to the Municipal library, while earlier it was named after the Kings. The permission for the monument’s erection was given in 2005.
