The church of Agios Athanasios is located at Preveza and it is a single-ended basilica, with a semicircular apse on the east. That means that it follows an architectural type, particularly popular to the Heptanese. Agios Athanasios is one of the oldest churches in Preveza, it was erected during the Venetian occupation. The internal part of the church has mural paintings, dating back to 1780, according to a relevant sign. The roof of the church is extremely impressive, because in many wall divisions there have been placed paintings, depicting scenes of the Old Testament, the miracles of Jesus etc.

On the wood carved iconostasis, the concession stands of the bottom are painted according to the Heptanese practice. Moreover, there are many important icons of the Heptanese art, preserved in the church.
